Brighton Gas Tower Kemptown

Welcome to our website presenting the proposals for the redevelopment of Brighton Gasworks.

Brighton Gasworks is a two-hectare site formerly used for the production and storage of gas.

We plan to redevelop the site into an exciting new part of the city which will provide new homes, jobs and publicly accessible open space for use by local people.

Our Consultation

St William first met with local residents and stakeholders in 2020 to present initial proposals for the site and hear residents’ feedback and aspirations.

Over February/March 2021 we carried out our second public consultation on the design of the buildings and landscape.

We received many responses to our consultation including 157 completed feedback forms as well as 54 emails. We also held one-to-one meetings via Zoom for those who wanted to chat to the team and attended local community meetings to discuss the proposals. We would like to thank everyone who took part.

The Planning Application

We hope to hold an exhibition of our proposals and submit a planning application for the site this summer.

We hope the exhibition will be an in person public event (subject to government guidelines and restrictions), providing you with an opportunity to meet the project team and ask any questions.

Before the Council makes a decision on the planning application, they will hold their own public consultation to seek community views.

In the meantime please feel free to contact us with any comments or questions.

To view our consultation material please visit the consultation page here.

News & Updates

We are currently holding our second online public consultation. To view the consultation information and share your feedback with us please visit the consultation page here.  Please aim to submit your comments by Friday 5 March 2021.

Commencing Monday 24 August we will be carrying out minor works at Brighton Gasworks as part of routine health and safety practices to ensure the gasholder superstructures remain in a safe condition. Works are due to last for approximately two weeks. Following inspection of the gasholders, the works may include removing elements of degraded metal work. Please note that any such works are not to dismantle the gasholder.

A Q&A of questions submitted for the June/July public consultation webinars is now available. Please go to the consultation page.

We would like to reiterate that we are accepting feedback after 13 July. Please take the time you need to review the consultation material and Q&A, and to ask questions, and send the feedback when you are ready. If you would like to speak with us via phone or video call in the meantime please get in touch.

A low resolution version of the consultation document has been uploaded to the consultation page in three smaller documents for ease of access by anyone with low internet connectivity. Please use these links to access them: Part 1; Part 2; Part 3.
